Konawaena Middle School is located in Kealakekua, Hawaii, about 20 minutes south of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island. The area surrounding our school is known for its world-famous Kona coffee and its classic Hawaiian landscape nestled between Hualalai volcano and Mauna Loa, the largest volcano in the world.

Konawaena Middle School is an accredited public middle school administered by the Hawaii Dept. of Education. We are known for our dynamic team teaching and for our enthusiastic students, staff and educators. Konawaena Middle School welcomes you! E komo mai!

Visitors to Konawaena Middle School will notice the colorful student mural on the south wall of the E building. It represents an ahupua'a, the traditional means of land subdivision in old Hawai'i.

The mural was painted by our own 7th and 8th graders from former art teacher Nick Wainright's classes during School Year 2008-09. Funding for the mural came from the Artists in the Schools Program. The mural was mounted on the E building wall in fall of 2009 by Goodfellows Construction. Be sure to check out our mural when you visit Konawaena Middle School!
